Chemistry and Materials Technology Specialization 1: Polymers Engineering As the processing of natural and synthetic polymers is a complex issue from a theoretical point of view, studying this course has quite an interdisciplinary character. Not only general knowledge, basic chemistry and basic physics, but also specific knowledge relating to the structure and properties of macromolecular compounds are required. Attention is also paid to machinery, equipment and tools used in polymer processing. Within the educational process, computers are widely used. Specialization 2: Environmental Protection Engineering The studies in this course involve knowledge of chemistry, chemical technology and engineering applicable in the sphere of environmental protection. Therefore, the studies are of an interdisciplinary character, aimed at producing graduates - engineers able to deal with problems related to environmental creation and protection. During the studies, emphasis is laid on chemical, physicochemical and engineering disciplines, incl. necessary courses in mathematics, computer technology and economics. Students acquire knowledge particularly in the field of ecology, toxicology, biochemistry, macromolecular chemistry, environmental analysis, technology of waste water processing, atmosphere protection, recycling and waste disposal as well as in the sphere of production technologies. Graduates are able to deal with problems related to environmental creation and protection in all fields of economy. Duration of program: 2 years Specialization 3: Footwear Health and Engineering The course emphasizes both studies in disciplines of a general character and in highly specialized disciplines concerning raw materials, semi-products, agents, and their properties and use. Students acquire complete basic knowledge regarding ready-to-wear leather production, construction and design of products incl. applied computer systems. Subsequently, they will learn the basics of production management, quality management, evaluation of quality of raw materials and products, their certification, and success on the market. Special attention is paid to the hygiene and health aspects of the products in use, to recycling and waste disposal. The graduates are specialists in footwear and leatherwear production and in related disciplines; they have acquired knowledge and skills necessary for dealing with R&D issues. Specialization 4: Material Engineering The course focuses on the development of and research into new materials - in particular composites with a polymer matrix, polymer alloys - and on mastering and comprehension of rules influencing the structure and properties of materials. Special attention is paid to the issue of preparation of plans for production of new types of materials with targeted utility properties (physical, chemical, biochemical). Students will acquaint themselves with physical, physicochemical and chemical properties of basic polymer materials. Emphasis is laid on chemical and engineering disciplines, incl. necessary courses in mathematics, computer technology and economics. Students are enabled to use the latest computer technology in order to simulate the required physicochemical properties. Within the degree course Material Engineering, students can also choose the specialization in Glass and Ceramics. Graduates are specialists in a wide sphere of production, development and technology of materials. Economics and Management Specialization: Management and Marketing Within the specialization in Management and Marketing, students acquire new knowledge in management, marketing, psychology, law, and other related disciplines. Research activities of the Department of Management are primarily aimed at the areas of enterprise competitiveness, new trends in marketing, new approaches to managerial development, intercultural diversity of education in European cyberspace, commercial law, differences in the perception of advertising between the lay public and expert, and cooperation management. Throughout the course, particular emphasis is laid upon teaching management and marketing. Engineering Informatics Specialization: Integrated Systems in Buildings The course focuses on problems connected with innovative approaches to securing the operation of new and existing buildings. Currently, buildings are usually equipped with such central energy, information and security systems that are interconnected and centrally controlled. However, they are supplier-bound and cannot be easily modified. In subjects taught within this specialization, students gain theoretical and practical knowledge as well as projection and experimental skills. Graduates can work for research institutions, manufacturing companies, firms involved in the administration of integrated buildings systems, and in the field of information technology. Media and Communication Studies Specialization: Marketing Communications The course in Marketing Communi
