Program Description:
The International Academy for Advanced Studies is the largest educational program in the Mediterranean that brings together more than 70 students from about 20 countries (North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and more) for a unique experience of cross cultural communication, right on the birthplace of Europe. This non-profit, socially conscious, academic initiative promotes high quality advanced interdisciplinary education, intellectual motivation and innovation. The mission of the Academy is to enhance the leadership potential of outstanding young academics from diverse disciplines, religious and ethnic backgrounds and applying the principles of Socrates in education, promote their professional and social development.

The curriculum explores major fundamental ideas on contemporary issues, from political economy to geopolitics and environment, conflict management, civil society and its roots of Plato, and a lot more. In addition to classes, students participate in structured and social dialogue designed to promote intercultural understanding. This combination of activities leads to an exchange of ideas that cannot be gained elsewhere and unexpected friendships that interlock the four corners of the world. Lectures and readings connect scientific, theoretical and philosophical analysis of issues relevant to the contemporary interrelated geopolitical economy and international relations, leading to a more profound understanding of prospects. The Academy's curriculum is taught by an international team of professors from distinguished Institutions, each an expert in practice. Professional experts are also invited as Guest speakers for particular topics. Upon successful completion of TIAAS, students receive the European Union Diploma Supplement, through our academic partners.

As a participant in TIAAS, students from a wide range of nationalities, religions, cultures and educational background, have the opportunity to learn, interact, and share their experiences in ways that can benefit their professional and personal development, in an ideal setting. Comparing and contrasting languages, customs, and cultures with their counterparts, while discussing the issues brought up in class or even in the news, help form friendships and a global network that can last a lifetime within the active alumni family. Graduates of our programs have discovered how this vast network opens doors never thought of, leading to life changing opportunities in various corners of the world.
Setting Description:
Chania is a top tourist destination in the Mediterranean, a beautiful seaside town on the island of Crete. Participants will be sure to enjoy the picturesque surroundings of the island as well as its many historical points of interest. The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh)campus offers a broad range of facilities necessary for the academic courses and the social interaction. A major advantage of the campus is that students and professors share the facilities, providing opportunities of extended interaction. The dormitory building has A/C rooms with private facilities, healthy meals -based on the UNESCO accredited Cretan diet- are served at the restaurant, there are sport facilities, wireless connection, and even a laundry room, which is very convenient during the summer especially. Come join us this summer in Greece and Crete in particular, and immerse in its ages of history, culture and traditions still alive in the local temperament today.
