Program Overview

Program Description:

NEW BREED OF ENERGY PROFESSIONALS

The Master of Sustainable Energy (previously called the Master of Energy Studies) is one of the few programs in the world that offers you a cross-disciplinary education with direct industry contact and practical experience. It provides the opportunity for individuals to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of energy systems, responsible business practice and contemporary energy challenges:

How do we solve the “wicked” energy challenge facing society – affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all?

Time is more than ripe for a new type of energy professional – those who understand various disciplinary tools and perspectives and are able to communicate effectively in all settings.

First offered in 2012, this program is different in the way that you as a student will be educated to address complex problems across a range of disciplines, enabling you to develop problem solving skills and progress to leadership and management positions across the energy sector.

Foundation courses include: Energy Principles and Renewable Energy, Climate Science and Policy, Energy and Development, Low Emission Technologies and Supply Systems, Energy Investment and Finance plus Energy Markets, Law and Policy.

Some courses involve site visits to let you see first-hand the changing landscape of energy and power generation in Australia. Previous site visits have included open-cut mines, solar farms, innovative PV systems, and wave energy research centres.

Graduates of the Master of Sustainable Energy typically work in and move across a large number of industries and sectors – where they develop innovative solutions for energy problems. Many graduates choose the program for professional development reasons and proceed to move into leadership or management positions in industry, consultancy, government, or in non-government organisations and international agencies.
