Program Overview

Program Description:

The Experiment begins in London, where you will discover landmarks such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. Begin media training with a visit to the British Film Institute, then start to develop your filmmaking, interviewing, and presentation skills. You will take part in workshops on rules and ethics in journalism and important topics, such as the role of the press, including freedom of speech and the effects of social media. Participate in projects and receive training from writers and members of the press.

In Southport, you will have your first homestay. Practice your public speaking skills as you interview a Member of Parliament and actors at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Draw inspiration as you travel to Liverpool to visit The Beatles Story museum, and Manchester to tour BBC studios. Travel to Chelsea to learn about sports media as you visit the Chelsea Football Club. Continue meeting with journalists and other field experts during debates and visits to local TV stations.

Create your own newspaper or short film while you travel to meet your new host family in Worcester. You will present your film, newspaper, photo, and writing creations before returning to London.
