Program Overview

Program Description:

Your Experiment starts in Amman, Jordan’s capital city, where you will begin Arabic lessons and experience Jordanian history, culture, and dayto-day life. After orientation, you will deepen your immersion in Jordanian culture during your Amman Homestay experience. For four weeks, you will become part of a family, learning about typical Jordanian life and taking advantage of around-the-clock opportunities to practice the language you’re learning in the classroom. Your study will include 40 hours of formal Arabic language instruction in small, private classes.

In addition to learning Arabic, you will expand your knowledge of presentday Jordan through discussions on Jordanian politics, Islam, democracy, human rights, the role of refugees, and multiculturalism. Learn about the ongoing debates surrounding Jordan’s environmental and natural resource challenges. You’ll get a taste of Jordan’s culinary culture with tea nights and cooking classes, and give back to the community with a local development project.

Outside the capital, you will explore Jordan’s ancient history in a Bedouin community, a distinct and  widely known nomadic group; float in the Dead Sea, the most spectacular natural landscape in Jordan; visit Petra, a treasure of the ancient world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and trek the rocky mountains of Wadi Rum on camelback.  You will wrap up your journey by returning to Amman.
