Program Overview

Program Description:

Strasbourg is the place where much of the business of integrated Europe is carried out. It houses the Council of Europe, Court of Human Rights, and the European Parliament of the European Union. The Syracuse program is five minutes from the Council of Europe and the University of Strasbourg. It is designed to take full advantage of the cultural, political and geographical resources of the city. Internships, field studies seminars, intensive language, and cultural immersion all extend learning beyond the classroom walls into the history and living traditions of the old and new Europe
Our academic program builds on the city’s unique institutional resources. Many of our faculty members are professionals from the Council of Europe or Court of Human Rights who bring real-world issues into the classroom. We offer a wide selection of courses exploring European political, economic, cultural and social issues. Courses in French and English include contemporary Europe and EU studies, French language and culture, international relations, human rights, and economics. Areas of special study include music performance (partnership with Strasbourg Conservatory) and public communications. Students with intermediate to advanced French language proficiency may take courses at the Institut International d'Etudes Francaises and the Universite de Strasbourg. * French homestays. * Signature Seminars to Eastern and Central (fall semester) and Western (spring semester) Europe. * Courses in English and French.

Setting Description:
The name Strasbourg means, "City of Roads," and indeed our program is located in the very heart of the new Europe. Situated in the Alsace region of France, we are just a five-minute bike ride from Germany and a one-hour train ride to Switzerland. A truly cosmopolitan city, Strasbourg is rich with social and cultural options—but still small enough for you to feel at home. It is located within a five minute walk of both the Council of Europe and the University of Strasbourg, and will be your home away from home in Europe.
