Program Overview

Program Description:

Live in two beautiful South American cities: Cuenca, Ecuador and Santiago, Chile, while refining your Spanish language skills. The SU Santiago program is open to graduate and undergraduate students with good academic standing who have had a minimum of two semesters of Spanish in college.

A four-week pre-semester language immersion in Cuenca allows you to perfect your Spanish before traveling to Santiago to begin your semester. After a two-week traveling seminar that will take you to Argentina and Uruguay, you will enroll at classes in local Santiago universities: Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica.

Setting Description:
Most participants will choose a two-city program experience, which includes pre-semester language immersion in Cuenca, Ecuador, followed by a semester of coursework in Santiago de Chile. Living arrangements in both cities are provided by local host families, which allow you to practice your Spanish and to gain unique insight into Latin American culture and lifestyles. Located high in the Andes, Cuenca is a friendly city known for its thriving art scene and works hard to preserve its pre-Columbian and Spanish heritages. The Syracuse Santiago Center is located downtown in the Campus Andres Bello of the Universidad de Chile. Because the Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica are urban campuses spread out across the city, you'll get to know Santiago well. The city's infrastructure is efficient and modern, boasting safe and convenient transportation around the city and between campuses.
