Program Overview

Program Description:
In fall 2003, Starr King will add a third master's degree -- the Master of Arts in Religious Leadership for Social Change (M.A.S.C.). This two-year program will integrate theological study, spiritual practice and professional development. The MASC will also direct the student toward intellectual exploration and practical competence in these eight threshold areas:
  • Life in Religious Community and Interfaith Engagement
  • Prophetic Witness and Work
  • History of Dissenting Traditions and the Theological Quest
  • Spiritual Practice and Care of the Soul
  • Rheology in Culture and Context
  • Educating for Wholeness and Liberation
  • Sacred Texts and Interpretation
  • Embodied Wisdom and Beauty
Each student's area of study is individually designed and includes an area of concentration to advance expertise in a specific social issue. Fieldwork in the community, guided by Starr King faculty and mentored by seasoned progressive religious activists, is integral to the educational process.
