We know that language is not the only objective, but a way of meeting people, of expressing wishes, forming opinions, sharing ideas, making plans, etc. With this in mind, we gear the whole experience towards you improving your communication skills, as well as gaining confidence, oral fluency and comprehension in Spanish. At Español in Situ you will talk and live in Spanish all day long: at breakfast, at lunch, on a trip out, taking a stroll around the mountain or playing and chatting with your colleagues. As the days go by, you will dream in Spanish. A perfect mix of language teaching, living together in a group and nature, which will ensure you have a productive and enjoyable holiday.
Our main goal is to make students capable of speaking and communicating in Spanish in real situations, gaining confidence, spoken fluency, oral comprehension and discursive coherency, and thus completing what they learnt of the language at their schools. To achieve this, we promote four essential aspects of the teaching/learning process of a FL (Foreign Language): MOTIVATION: In our Junior Programme for teenagers, all activities both within and outside the classroom are intended to encourage the use of Spanish in a natural, healthy and fun way. REAL INPUT: It is well known that during second language acquisition, interaction and negotiation with native speakers activate learning and favour internalization. However, when a student travels abroad to do a 2 or 3 week Spanish course, they often find that opportunities to speak with native speakers outside the classroom are scarce. The majority of them, due to not having any Spanish-speaking friends or acquaintances, tend to spend most of their time with classmates, forming groups of different nationalities, where English tends to be the language of communication. Thanks to their structure and original group dynamics, our ‘living together’ and language immersion programmes have managed to fill in this gap, ensuring students may interact in Spanish with native speakers in an intensive way and under the supervision of expert SSL (Spanish as a Second Language) teachers. DEALING WITH INTERCULTURALITY: In addition to improving their level of Spanish, we also offer our students a unique intercultural experience, allowing them to access a new linguistic and socio-cultural reality and encouraging within the student values such as respect and tolerance towards diversity.
