Program Description:
Professional Counselor Track Because the stresses of modern living can cause personal and family problems, these degree programs are designed to prepare students to serve their communities by helping people who are in emotional distress and who find their lives out of balance. Graduates will be prepared to serve in both secular and Christian organizations. Students will become proficient counselors and will gain experience that will help ensure their success in a clinical setting. They will also be prepared for more advanced educational programs and will have completed the prerequisites necessary to be eligible for state licensure exam in Tennessee and other states. By taking classes offered during regular semesters and summer sessions, students may complete their degree program in six to seven semesters, including some summer enrollment Evening classes are designed to be convenient for working students. School Counseling Administrators, teachers, and students in today’s schools face daily challenges. Trained counselors can assist them in facing these challenges successfully. Southern Adventist University’s Master of Science degree in School Counseling prepares individuals to serve as school counselors. Student counselors learn to support teachers, other professional personnel, and parents in meeting their students’ needs for academic and career preparation, as well as for personal growth and development. The School Counseling program at SAU is approved by the Tennessee State Board of Education. Evening classes are offered throughout the year and in summer sessions.
