From picturebooks to young adult literature, classic works to contemporary prize-winners, explore the artistry of literature for children and young adults. Apply varied theoretical frameworks to historical and contemporary texts to discover their imaginative ambitions and critical successes.
Immerse yourself in a wide range of genres — poetry, nonfiction, fantasy, and young adult realistic fiction — and investigate the ways that children's literature constructs childhood.
Explore the diverse professional perspectives shaping literature for today’s children and young adults with faculty from across professional fields. Take a course in publishing, writing for children, book reviewing. Track the intersections of children’s literature and pop culture. Evaluate hot trends and seek new perspectives in a growing field.
Chat with editors, authors, and illustrators at the summer institute. Participate in the many programs sponsored by the Simmons Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at Simmons, such as Horn Book at Simmons Symposium and the Boston Book Festival.

- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose first language is not English. The exam will be waived if the applicant has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. institution.
