Program Overview

Program Description:
The core of graphic design at SCAD is design thinking. This exploratory process encourages students to see differently, shift focus, look from multiple perspectives, and realize how perception influences meaning. At SCAD, graphic design is about more than problem-solving, as students take on the creative challenge of defining what the problems are, and what opportunities exist for new solutions. At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, coursework parallels the new professional practice. Emphasis is placed on integrated sustainability processes, focusing on environmental protection, social equity, cultural vitality and economic well-being. SCAD graphic design students gain the knowledge and skills needed for success in publication, poster and package design; Web, motion and interactive design; brand design; typeface design; environmental and wayfinding systems; and information design and social media exchanges. Students engage in commercial assignments with industry partners such as Barnes & Noble, Benetton Group, JCB, Sports Media Technologies and nonprofit organizations such as the American Red Cross, Project M and the Emergent Structures Project. M.A. and M.F.A. degrees in graphic design are offered in Atlanta, Savannah, Hong Kong, and eLearning.
