Straddling the Cher and Loire rivers, Tours is the chief city of the Loire Valley. The city’s superb Renaissance architecture and museums bear witness to its proud heritage, and patronage by the French royal family. At its center—and only a two-minute walk from the main university buildings—is the Place Plumereau, or Place Plume, the hub of student life, with its cafés, restaurants and shops.
