San Jose, surrounded by hillsides, rainforests, and three volcanoes, is the capital of Costa Rica. About one in every three “Ticos” (Costa Ricans) lives in San Jose. There’s plenty to keep you occupied in the downtown area, with various markets, plazas, parks, shops, clubs, and restaurants—Gallo pinto, fried rice and black beans, is a tasty favorite dish—to discover.
