- Maun, Botswana
- Program Type:
- Study Abroad
- Degree Level:
- Fall Semester, Spring Semester
- Program Description:
Spend a semester living, studying, and conducting research with Round River in Botswana's Okavango Delta, home to some of the world's most abundant and diverse wildlife populations.
Round River works with the Okavango Research Institute, and a number of Community Trusts, to assist with implementing a standardized wildlife monitoring methodology in the Delta. Students assist in these conservation efforts, conducting research with local people to help monitor local wildlife populations. Camping for the entire semester in the Okavango Delta and neighboring towns, students learn first hand about the country's culture, history, and conservation policies - all while gaining valuable field skills and earning up to 15-semester credits.
This is a unique program; one that will allow you the opportunity to experience real Botswana, and to learn about conservation in ways that the classroom cannot provide. The field-based nature of the program means that our program may not be the right choice for everyone, but if you love the outdoors, seeing wildlife, camping, and if you want to take part in real conservation projects, then this program is for you.
- $18,380. This includes program tuition, research costs, in-country travel, and all food and lodging during the program. Airfare to and from Maun, Botswana, is the responsibility of the student and can range from $1700 to $2200.

Studying in Botswana was an incredible experience! It gave me amazing field experience performing bird, herbivore, and predator surveys in the bush that is already helping me find wildlife field technician jobs back in the states. I'm so thankful that
I had the opportunity to study there and specifically with Round River Conservation Studies. The instructors, Kaggie, 16, and Samara, are all extremely knowledgeable, patient teachers, nice, and fun to live with. I learned an immense amount about wildlife management and conservation and the culture in Botswana, but I also had a lot of fun. I can't put into words how fantastic it is to see the wildlife there. Sharing camp with lions, hippos, elephants, giraffes, leopards, buffalo, hyenas, and all of Africa's other animals never grows old! I would definitely recommend this program to anyone- it's extremely special!read moreBottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
