- Raison d'Art Retreats offers unique summer art camps and spanish immersion camps for teens and culinary and yoga retreats for adults in Girona, Spain. Our Fine Art Camps and Spanish Immersion Camps incorporate art, nature, history, culture, creativity and outdoor activities into one extraordinary journey. Our summer camps are unique as we only take 12 students per session. We live as 1 big family.
Our summer art camps and spanish immersion camps focus on the art of living a balanced, creative and fulfilling life. Our goal is to inspire young people to slowdown, unplug from the chaos of the modern world and learn the art of "being". Nestled between the foothills of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean in the Girona Provice of Spain, students of our summer camps will live together in our beautiful restored 200-year-old home (next to a 1,000 year old restored castle).
In our Fine Art Summer Camps, students will spend each day developing their skills as well as their own unique vision. Since the number of students in each session is small everyone will benefit from lots of personal and individual attention.? Mornings will began either with a formal lesson/demonstration or continuation from the previous day. Students will explore their ideas and interpret their experience through their work. Each day will offer new inspiration, whether at the sea, in the mountains or at an ancient village. Using pencil, charcoal, acrylic paint, watercolors and portable easels students will work direct and on-site. Each student will also receive a sketchbook to further record their trip and develop ideas. ??The afternoons will either be spent working on art or doing activities such as swimming or hiking. We will take day trips to Barcelona & Girona, exolore local villages, swim in the Mediterranean, hike the volcanos of Olat and visit a few museums (Picasso, Dali, etc.) There will also be time to just relax at the house. Students can work on their art, play ping-pong, take photos or just read a book. ??While there are many things to do and see we also want to balance that with slowing down, enjoying life in Spain. Our goal is to provide a deep and meaningful experience full of inspiration and growth. This spanish immersion camp (Session #2) will consist of 10 Spanish classes (Monday-Friday each week). Classes will be held from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. Afternoons will be spent doing art, visiting museums, attractions, Girona, Barcelona, medieval villages, markets, the beach, etc. Evenings will be watching movies in Spanish and/or playing games, also in Spanish. This session will focus more on language rather than fine art, so the quantity of art this camp will be doing will be less than the other sessions. We will have a "tutor" or "counsellor" with us in the afternoons/evenings who will be speaking at all times in Spanish, they will join us on outings and excursions during the entire camp. The spanish lessons are highly communicative and fun, designed to motivate and stimulate the young students in their learning of Spanish. Our teacher is a native speaker and the emphasis is on speaking and comprehension, to equip the students with the everyday languagee needed to communicate. The goal of the lessons is as much to practice and consolidate the Spanish that students have already studied at school as it is to learn new topics such as going shopping, eating in restaurants, visiting tourist attractions, introducing themselves and making friends. If students have a particular area of Spanish that they would like to work on, to compliment what they have been studying at school, they can also bring this to the class.

The large backyard is fully private and is overlooked by 2 large terraces. Dining or sitting outside on a warm night is wonderful. Rooms are set with bunk beds and at most 4 to a room (shared bath) Orriols is 20 minutes north of Girona, 15 minutes south of Figueres, 20 minutes to the mediterranean and 30 minutes to the mountains. A perfect location that is close to so much in this beautiful area. Catalonia packs a lot into its four provinces. The stunning cove beaches of the Costa Brava make it one of Spain’s loveliest coasts, backed by the top foodie scene and Jewish history of the medieval city of Girona, and Salvador Dalí's gloriously surre
