Program Overview

Program Description:
This on-campus masters prepares students and develops skills for a lifetime of intentional social change. Prescott College is expanding its leadership in this area by welcoming students to its new Master of Arts Program in Social Justice and Human Rights. This program was born out of our successful undergraduate programs in peace studies, human development, humanities and cultural studies. Graduates of this program will be uniquely prepared to tackle real world challenges of economic, social, political and environmental inequality. Our innovative curriculum focuses on the application of organizing and mobilization theory into existing projects on the local, national and international scenes. This emphasis on direct action and involvement is what sets our program apart from the rest. The curriculum of this 36-credit program combines a unique focus of critical race theory, anti-colonial theory, feminist and queer theory, critical political economy and third world liberation theory with profound emphasis on developing organizing and mobilization as powerful tools for understanding the complex relations of history, politics, power and political/cultural/gendered oppression. Community organizing skills, together with a strong theoretical basis, prepare students for applying their skill set within different organizing settings and working in collaboration with directly affected communities. Graduate Teaching Assistantships are available
