MA This programme offers youthe opportunity to graduate with an individually tailored award within a field of contemporary photography. Specialist awards • MA Photography • MA Photography and the Book • MA Photography and the Land • MA Photography and Writing Programme structure The MA Photography awards are offered as either a one year full-time or two year part-time route. All awards offer you the opportunity to develop yourcreative practice, knowledge and understanding through the resolution of individual research and practice, developed through selfselecting projects and assignments, concluding with a major project. The collective breadth offered by the portfolio of exit awards is a platform from which you can develop their individual in-depth MA project. In the delivery of the taught sessions you are introduced to examples relevant to all aspects offered in the specialist awards. You will apply with your particular MA project proposal with a specific award in mind. Through the taught programme, you will pursue individually orientated research and assessed projects, from which an in-depth understanding of the appropriate context for your practice will be gained. All the awards have an ethos of experimentation, creativity, risk-taking, research and authorship that leads to the development of a critically reflective practice. MRes We particularly welcome research proposals in the following areas: land and environment; camera-less photography; contemporary art practices; documentary and reportage; architectural photography; and women's photography. The programme engages current ideas and debates, skills and methodologies for research into or through photography. Students are also encouraged to attend research seminars in a wide variety of arts disciplines, and faculty-wide research training events. The programme comprises three assessed modules: • Photography, the practice of research, shared with the taught masters programmes in photography (30 credits) • Research in the arts and humanities (30 credits) • A masters thesis or approved research project (120 credits) The project/thesis may be assessed entirely through written work, or through a substantial practical project accompanied by an extended contextual essay. Full-time students take photography, the practice of research in term one, research in the arts and humanities in terms one and two, and their project/thesis across the whole academic year. Part-time students take the two taught modules in year one and carry out their project/thesis in year two. The project/thesis is taught via one-to-one supervision during term time and through contact by arrangement up to final submission in September.

A 2:1 honours degree or above in photography or a related subject; or an equivalent degree from overseas. Evidence you are ready to pursue your proposed project.
