Program Overview
- Program Description:
- If you are looking to change direction in your legal career, have your sights set on becoming a partner or just want to know more about the law in practice then the LLM is a flexible way to progress your career ambitions. You will need to have successfully completed the PgDip in Legal Practice or have completed a Legal Practice Course at another recognised institution to be accepted onto the LLM. You can also top up from a recognised Bar Vocational Course. There are two routes you can follow - the work-based learning path or the research dissertation path. First though, you need to complete an intensive three-day masters preparation and planning module, after which you can choose which of the two routes to follow. If you choose the work-based path, then you will be expected to submit a substantial reflective work portfolio together with evidence of career planning and development. This could be work undertaken during a training contract, but not necessarily. Should you decide to opt for the research route then you will need to submit a 15,000–20,000-word law in practice project on a subject related to legal practice. An academic supervisor and possibly a work-based mentor will aid you, depending on which of the two paths you choose to take.
