Program Description:

Graduates of our human development master's program are prepared for leadership roles in a vast range of education settings. Many graduates have become community college instructors, school administrators and supervisors, and teachers—helping to spread our inclusive, strength-based approach. Students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience at Pacific Oaks' nationally recognized Children's School. Program is offered online or on campus. Our program builds competence in human development, knowledge of the social and political contexts of development, communication skills, integration of theory into practice, and research—preparing graduates to take on leadership roles in a range of settings serving young children and their families. * May be completed in a year and a half full time, or in as little as two years part time. * Students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience at Pacific Oaks' nationally recognized Children's School. * Students complete a master’s project/thesis based on their individual field experiences—providing an original contribution to knowledge and understanding in the field of human development. Human Development specialists study the physical and psychological changes that human beings experience across their life spans from motor skills development to psychological and emotional development in the areas of problem-solving, language acquisition, personality and identity formation, social and emotional maturation, and beyond. They explore the interaction between biology and environment, and work to enhance development across the life span in diverse social contexts. Human Development professionals find work in a vast range of settings. Some put their degrees to work in early childhood, social service, healthcare, and education settings, while others use their degrees as a relevant foundation for pursuing teacher credentialing or advanced degrees in areas such as sociology, medicine, public administration, law, criminal justice, psychology, social work, counseling, and more.
