Program Overview

Program Description:

Based at a large wildlife sanctuary in central Thailand, this project involves caring for Asiatic Black Bears and Sun Bears rescued from lives of neglect or maltreatment. Unable to be released due to ongoing illness or injury, the bears are permanent residents at the sanctuary and rely on care provided by staff and volunteers. As a volunteer with this project you will help to provide daily care for the bears by assisting with feeding and watering and ensuring their enclosures remain clean. Your efforts will contribute to enriching the lives of these beautiful bears.

In addition to direct animal care, the sanctuary also has a strong focus on education, providing education programs to school children and visitors and campaigning against cruel and unethical practices and treatment of animals. Volunteers may also assist with visitor tours and help to enhance habitat at the sanctuary by planting trees.

Setting Description:
The project is located in central Thailand, near the Tha Yang district in the Phetchaburi province. The entire western half of Phetchaburi province consists of the Kaeng Krachan National Park. The Park, famous for the diversity of its plants and animals, incorporates nearly 3000 km² of largely undisturbed rainforest and forms the biggest National Park in Thailand.
Cost:
From $778 (for 3 weeks) USD.
