Program Overview
- Program Description:
This project helps to address over-population and mistreatment of domestic dogs and cats on Thailand’s island of Koh Lanta Yai.
The project is based at a shelter that operates a sterilisation program for stray dogs and cats. The program aims to deal with the high numbers of stray animals on island in a humane way and improve the lives of homeless animals that come into care. The shelter works hard to educate the local community around the ethical treatment of animals and to promote respect for the island’s cats and dogs. The centre also provides medical treatment for sick and injured animals.
As a volunteer with this project you will help with the day to day care of the animals which come into the centre. This may include feeding and watering, assisting with medical care and cleaning enclosures. Socialisation and exercise is very important for the dogs so you will also spend time playing with the dogs and make take them for walks and outings to the beach. You will also have the opportunity to help rescue stray animals and bring them into the centre for care and to help promote the centre and its work within the local community.
- Setting Description:
- The project is located on Koh Lanta Yai, the largest island off the west coast of southern Thailand. The island has many natural attractions including beautiful beaches, coral reefs, a national park, mangroves and caves. It also has modern bars and restaurants and a wide range of cuisine options available.
- Cost:
- From $478 for 4 weeks USD.
