Program Overview

Program Description:

This project is based at one of the few animal shelters in Ecuador. Dedicated to promoting respect and protection for all animals, the centre operates a rescue service and refuge for mistreated animals. The centre strives to achieve adoption of rescued pets and is highly active in promoting responsible pet ownership.

Volunteers assist with animal rescues and tend to the animals in care, including feeding and cleaning of enclosures. As the majority of rescue animals are dogs, volunteers also assist with walking, bathing, playing and re-building trust. You may also be involved in raising awareness of appropriate pet care and the objectives of the centre. It is strongly recommended that you know some basic Spanish, as many of the staff at the shelter are Spanish-speaking.

Volunteers on this project have the fantastic option of staying with a local family, so you can really immerse yourself in genuine local Ecuadorian culture.

Setting Description:
The project is based in the heart of Quito, Ecuador’s capital city. Located high in the Andes and surrounded by mountain peaks, Quito was built in the 16th century amongst the ruins of an Incan city. Today the city is a vibrant mix of beautifully restored historical architecture, traditional culture and modern eateries and bars. The predominant language spoken in Quito is Spanish.
Cost:
From $415 per week USD.
