Program Overview
- Program Description:
This incredible project is based at an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre, located within the Amazon Jungle in Ecuador. The centre works in collaboration with the indigenous Quichuan community to rescue illegally-held and mistreated wild animals. The most commonly rescued species include birds, primates, turtles and wild cats.
Volunteers help to provide care for these animals, some of which are able to be rehabilitated and released back into the wild. As a volunteer, you will also help to provide care and enrichment to the animals that are unable to return to the wild and are under permanent care at the centre.
- Setting Description:
- The project is situated on 60 hectares of privately-owned Amazon rainforest, in Pastaza province in Ecuador. Pastaza is the largest province in Ecuador. Its capital city, Puyo, is considered one of the safest cities in the country. Nearly the entire Pastaza province lies within the Amazon rainforest; the world’s largest remaining expanse of tropical rainforest and heralded as one of the most bio-diverse areas on the planet.
- Cost:
- From $890 USD.
