Program Overview

Program Description:
Travel. Explore. Learn. If you would like to spend a time volunteering or learning-by-doing in rural Ghana or Tanzania, Experience Rural Africa has a village you will visit for a stay, giving you a chance to experience the culture, the people and much more. Experience Rural Africa is a social project that provides the opportunity for people in the Western culture to immerse in rural Africa through various sustainable development projects. Participants are placed in underserved communities in Ghana or Tanzania for hands-on experience and to build partnerships with the community to enable them harness their skills and experience to drive their own development. The program provides you with the option to learn or share your practice through community development projects such as school building project, arts village project, or get involved with life-skills training of rural children and youth to equip them with computer and communication skills, financial literacy, arts and design thinking, games and sports activities, health education, or other skills that can enable them accomplish their academic ambitions and to perform in life to their full potential. Experience Rural Africa is open to university students, gap year persons, working professionals and retirees.

-IMMERSE in the local culture and lifestyle to help out in our building project, arts village project, or create your own project to assist the underserved community to create change. -EXPLORE life in rural Africa and rural schools, live and work among the local people, and gain new skills. -LEARN by discovering what resources the community already has and by mobilizing those resources to meet community needs.

The program is available all year around for a stay from 1 to 9 months.
