Program Description:
An in depth study of, and interaction with, weavers, embroiderers, painters, artists, craftsmen and musicians to learn how they work and live.

Visit weavers, dyers, lacquer makers, wood carvers, fine arts artists, and other artisans, in their homes and work places allows you to talk with them and get to know them.

The experiences that can be had by participating in an arts culture in the heart of an artistic city cannot be matched anywhere else. Students will make friends with artists and artisans in a way that is totally impossible for the tourist.
Setting Description:
Varanasi, India is an ancient preindustrial holy city to Hindu and Buddhist people and there is a wealth of color, beauty, spirituality, and bustle on the edge of the holy Ganges River. NIRMAN has a village and a city campus within walking distance of markets, the university, museum, and the ghats on the river.
