Program Description:

This programme provides you with an advanced knowledge and understanding of contemporary international economic and political ideas, structures and developments. Graduates from this programme acquire a range of skills and expertise appropriate for both academic and non-academic careers.
This programme provides an opportunity to explore key themes in contemporary international political economy, such as the growing tensions between the æglobalisingÆ world economy, the traditional nation state and the persistence and causes of poverty. It is enhanced by the lively debates in a growing field of study with direct contemporary relevance.
You take three compulsory modules (60 credits); three optional modules (60 credits); and complete a dissertation (60 credits). Compulsory modules are: theories and theorists of international political economy; the state in the international political economy; and techniques and sources for political research. Optional modules may include: the European Union as an international actor; democracy in divided societies û ethnicity, power sharing and international mediation; Africa û the politics of international development; international relations theory; American foreign policy; the politics of global change; political philosophy of international relations; integration in Europe; transitional justice.
Teaching and learning take place largely in seminars. In addition, student research papers and dissertations are prepared in close liaison with academic staff. Assessment is based principally on course work, research papers and a dissertation.
