Program Overview

Program Description:
Summer in Prague allows students to study history in the making. Prague is an ideal place in which to observe the evolving cultural politics of the "new" Europe. Czech Republic: Design as Performance traces the genealogy of design from its roots in the concentration camps of World War II to the 20th century. Prague: 35mm Filmmaking gives advanced film students and those with an interest in dramatic writing an opportunity to expand their craft.

Summer in Prague offers courses in modern European literature and culture, cinema, art and architecture, European history, politics, and economics. Czech Republic: Design as Performance includes hands-on workshops to explore tools and approaches for collaboration between the visual and performing arts. Prague: 35mm Filmmaking covers a detailed overview of screenwriting, directing, and editing, including workshops in 35 mm motion picture camera and lighting techniques.

Summer in Prague includes 8 credits, housing, and excursion expenses. Czech Republic: Design as Performance includes 4 credits, housing, museum admissions, excursions, and some meals. Prague: 35mm Filmmaking includes 8 credits, housing, some meals, and excursions.
Setting Description:
Summer in Prague courses take place at the NYU center, a 15th-century building only steps away from the Old Town Square and Prague's historic clock tower. Czech Republic: Design as Performance offers architectural and gallery tours as well as attendance at Czech theatres to investigate the historical and political conditions from which Eastern European theatre emerged. Prague: 35mm Filmmaking courses are held at the Film and Television School of Academy of Performing Arts.
