Program Description:

Location: Tel Aviv, Israel Program Dates: January 6 - 19, 2019

An interdisciplinary examination of disability in Israel, with an emphasis on autism and developmental disabilities within a different cultural context will be explored. We encourage students from education, health, social science and humanities fields to take this course.

Students will visit a variety of settings to observe the participation of children and adults with disabilities in health and school settings, learning from people with disabilities and those who work with them. Discussions of environmental and contextual issues that limit the individuals’ ability to participate in activities will take place, as well as identification of cultural assets in addressing the needs of those with developmental disabilities will be explored. Students will learn to evaluate, assess and identify the services and programs and ideologies that vary across and within cultures.
