Program Overview

Program Description:
The programme aims to equip graduates with the range of technical, business, and behavioural skills needed for successful implementation and management of information technology (I.T.) in today's changing workplace environments. The course is multidisciplinary with the emphasis on producing a "hybrid" graduate who can combine business and behavioural skills with a sound knowledge of I.T. MIT graduates can apply and communicate effective I.T. solutions at all levels within an organisation. The Master of Information Technology is a multidisciplinary programme comprising a taught component, work placement, and a research dissertation. During the first year of the course students attend full-time at NUI Galway for two semesters where they take lectures and seminars and complete course assignments and projects. Examinations are held in December and May. Following this, students work for six months in a major project in industry. This placement provides the student with practical work experience and forms the basis for a written dissertation submitted in May of their second year. The second year of the MIT will involve either a work placement-under the University's Professional Experience Programme-or a project to be completed in the university. This will take place from June to December. In December of second year the student returns to college to complete the writing of their research thesis, which is submitted in May.
