Program Overview

Program Description:

For over 25 years, NTI has collaborated with the Moscow Art Theatre, the birthplace of modern theater and modern actor training. MATS is a prestigious, credit-earning 13-week study abroad program offered every fall and provides the only opportunity for American undergraduates to train in acting, movement, voice, Russian theater history, design, language at the famed school.

Daily acting classes in the Stanislavsky System, the Michael Chekhov Technique, and movement classes (including Biomechanics and Ballet) are complemented with voice, design, Russian language, and Russian theater history. Students study in the vibrant city of Moscow, visit cultural sites, see as many as 40 performances, and train with master teachers of the Moscow Art Theatre School. Classes are held six days a week, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

20 undergraduate credits awarded by NTI's school of record, Connecticut College. Setting Description:
The Moscow Art Theatre School is located in heart of Moscow. A metropolitan campus, student housing, classes, and theaters are all reachable within an half-hour walk from one another and through Moscow’s central corridor, ending in the iconic Red Square. MATS students live in the centrally located and newly renovated (by Harvard University)Moscow Art Theater School dormitory with a kitchen, dining room, WiFi Internet access, and excellent security.
Cost:
The comprehensive fee includes travel to Russia, tuition, housing, all performance tickets, and a weekend trip to St. Petersburg. Students are responsible for paying for their Visa and processing fee, meals, and travel to Connecticut/from NYC. Visit the website for the most up-to-date program fees. Scholarships available.
