Program Description:
Join us for the 1st edition of our six-week Summer Industrial Design Workshop and receive an inside look at the hottest topics in design all while experiencing the awesomeness of Barcelona and its surroundings this summer 2012! Within these 6 x 7 incredible days of hardcore, deep diving design workshop and internship with Hiroshi Tsunoda of DesignCode at MOB (Makers Of Barcelona), we will guide you through not only the process of design but also the reality of production in the industrial business. We will be working hard, very hands on and for sure engaging manually in the production of the design of the participants. We believe in not only the design of things but more importantly the making of them, so yes, you will be tapping screws, milling metal or wood, bending metal tubes, making cast molds for ceramics, molding lamination woods, or at the very least glue on paper!! And at the end of the workshop, expect to have your creation, designed by you, hand-made by you, and perhaps even market and sold by you.

OBJECTIVES 1. The techniques of the idea mapping, brain mapping will be addressed to come up with ideas for each processes of design during the whole workshop. 3. The participants will be able to develop their designs to the production level. 4. How to plan production lines will be taught according to the necessity that each participants will have. PROGRAM 1. Visits to factories and ateliers where the participants can see and learn about the processes of production. 2. Lectures from design brand owners about running design brands and company and to share their knowledge of branding. 3. Visits to Barcelona based designers’ studios where the participants can learn about how design studios work. 4. Art Supermarket at MOB, this will be the day to test your design, marketing and branding of your product! Participants will have the opportunity to sell their work at the end of the workshop at MOB and get direct feedback from visitors.

Setting Description:
FACULTY AND FACILITY The Summer Industrial Design Workshop will be taught by Hiroshi Tsunoda who has the knowledge, experience and expertise in the field of industrial design. Mr. Tsunoda, who runs the design brand of DesignCode from Barcelona, also possesses the understanding of branding and production. This workshop targets young aspiring designers and entry level design students. This workshop will be taught in ENGLISH. The workshop will be held at MOB – Makers Of Barcelona, a 1000m2 creative collaborative facility and community for co-working and co-learning at the heart of the city center in Barcelona. Students will have access to the facilty 24/7, fully equipped with the necessary tools to apply their creativity. The facility is shared with other students and professionals, local and international alike.
Cost:
The six week program fee per individual is 3340€ which include housing, tuition, studio materials, museum visits, and emergency contact services. Not included in the program fee is travelling to, from and within Barcelona and visa application fees. Participants will be housed in centrally located shared apartments with other MOB workshop applicants.
