Program Overview

Program Description:

The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education offers a master’s in language and literacy education in which students choose one of two concentrations: A literacy concentration leading to reading specialist certification or an ESL concentration leading to ESL certification. Both concentrations are available for elementary and secondary teachers who possess an Instructional Certificate in Pennsylvania. A Master of Education in Language and Literacy Education offers the student the opportunity to participate in original research and experiential programs in this field.

Teacher Education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the University is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
Requirements:
Applicants must possess Pennsylvania Instructional I Certification. Applicants must have earned a 2.75 or better undergraduate cumulative average. The General Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are required if undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0.
