Program Description:

In the Pharmacy Technician program at MMC in Chattanooga, you’ll learn how to be an effective member of a pharmacy team, with valuable knowledge and skills employers are looking for. You’ll graduate confident in your ability to work as a Pharmacy Technician.

The courses in the Pharmacy Technician program include:

    Introduction to Pharmacy: Students will learn the qualifications, operational guidelines, and job duties of a pharmacy technician. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to discuss the purpose of the pharmacy department; identify the duties and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician; explain the importance of utilizing pharmacy resources; and summarize the importance of environmental safety standards, pharmacy safety, and personal safety and hygiene.
    Drug Classification Systems: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to identify drug dosages, routes of administration, and dosage forms, identify types of drugs used in the treatment of disease processes, and describe pharmacological and regulatory classification systems.
    Externship: Students will apply lecture and laboratory skills in a practical work-based training environment. Students will demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom by working effectively as a member of a pharmacy team.

After completing our Chattanooga, TN Pharmacy Technician program, students are eligible to sit for the certification exam.
