Program Description:
The Spanish Summer Intensive Language Program (SILP) provides a highly intensive language-learning environment for motivated students. SILP at the Monterey Institute provides a highly intensive language-learning environment for motivated students. Our experience in providing intensive language instruction coupled with our expertise in the field of second language acquisition sets our program apart from others. Beginning, intermediate and advanced level courses comprise 180 hours of instructions in an 8-week program. This rigorous program is highly effective for language acquisition in a compressed period of time. SILP offers language training in Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, Russian, and Japanese. SILP highlights: Small class sizes (average of 8-10 students per class) 4-5 hours of in-class instruction each day Instruction in cultural content Focus on Communication and Fluency Out-of-class language and culture activities Daily tutoring opportunities Up to 8 units of graduate or undergraduate credit earned Program Dates: 9 week intensive summer course, Check back for 2014 dates Application Deadline: Mid April

Requirements:
Unless you are an absolute beginner, you are required to take the online diagnostic test before applying to the program. Your application will not be processed without a diagnostic score. Our intensive program generally requires that students be at least 18 years of age. The Summer Intensive Language Program will occasionally admit students between the ages of 16 to 18. Participants under the age of 18 must provide proof that they are in custody of a legal guardian living in the local area. Under-age participants are also required to submit two letters of recommendation from teachers or advisers that attest to their fitness for intensive language study.
