Program Overview

Program Description:

We prepare professionals with the skills and knowledge to run study abroad programs, provide student services in ESL and intensive language programs, manage international student services offices, develop international professional training programs, and work for government programs such as Fulbright and Education USA (and the international equivalents).

The three-semester degree program includes a rigorous and intensive academic year at the Monterey, CA campus followed by a 4-6 month professional practicum in the U.S. or around the world.

In addition to comprehensive investigation of the international education field, the curriculum emphasizes the program management skills essential to generating and managing resources (financial and human). Success in international education, or educational administration more broadly, is highly dependent upon graduates' abilities in marketing, recruitment, advancement, communications, strategic planning, budgeting, and staff management. Development of intercultural communication skills and foreign language competency is also a key component of the program.

A highlight of the three-semester MA degree is the International Educational Management Practicum. With extensive support in identifying and securing practicum positions, students will gain practical experience working with international education organizations in sectors including higher education, youth programs, policy and research organizations, language programs, and non-profit-organizations.

Among the unique opportunities offered by the International Education Management program is a partnership with Middlebury Schools Abroad. In this exciting collaboration, students can assist in running study abroad programs at locations in Russia, Italy, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Spain, France, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, China, Japan, Chile, Mexico, and Israel.
