- Program Description:
Participants will spend a full month immersing themselves in the study of Irish culture and history while exploring and experiencing the rich and diverse heritage of Ireland. Surround yourself with the opulent splendor of the Emerald Isle!
This program is designed to increase awareness of Irish culture through academic instruction & cultural excursions to help create greater global awareness. Students choose 6 accredited college credits from: ART142-Intro to Digital Photography (3 cr), REL 250-History of Religion in Ireland-Ancient to Midieval (3 cr), or STO290-Irish Storytelling (3 cr).
Study Abroad Ireland is held on the campus of Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) located in picturesque Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland. Participants will be housed in the Croi Oige Student Village apartments conveniently located across from AIT's campus. Using Athlone as a home base, students will make day-long excursions to major historical/cultural sites such as the megalithic monuments at Loughcrew and Trim Castle, spend several days in Galway, take a boat to Clonmacnoise and spend a day in Dublin City.
- Setting Description:
- Situated in the heart of Ireland astride the river Shannon, Athlone is a city rich in culture and history. It is home to Athlone Castle which was used to control trade along the river through the center of the island nation for much of its history. Modern Athlone is a center of industry and education and home to one of Irleland’s major institutes of technology. Its central location makes access to the rest of the country convenient via road, rail, and bus.

Program fee includes: academic facility, lodging, cultural excursions, local ground transportation, medical insurance and direct program fees. Students pay for international airfare and meals.
