Program Description:

The Fisheries Resource Management program is intended to provide graduates with knowledge and understanding of a range of areas related to fisheries management. The program is applicable to all facets of the industry, and is a must for individuals involved in the day-to-day business of fisheries resource management locally, nationally or internationally. The program includes eight courses: Fisheries Ecology; Quantitative Methods in the Fishery; Fisheries Economics; Fisheries Policy; Fisheries Planning and Development; Business Management for Fisheries; Evolution of Fisheries; Seminar in Fisheries Management. Students must also complete a major paper. It is available on a full or part-time basis. Full-time study will allow completion of the program in one academic year. Successful applicants to the program may start in either the fall or winter semester of any academic year. Admission to the program is competitive. The basis for admission is typically an undergraduate degree with a minimum of a high second-class standing. International applicants with equivalent credentials will also be considered. In addition to the academic requirements, prospective students will normally have a demonstrated commitment to the fishery through employment or experience in a sector of the fishery, in a regulatory agency or government department connected to the fisheries, in a non-governmental agency, or through self-employment or relevant professional consulting activities.
