Program Description:
The South Africa Service Learning Program is based in cosmopolitan Cape Town where you will become acquainted with South Africa's rich history and see firsthand how the country is rebuilding itself after decades apartheid. The program offers students the unique opportunity to pursue a dual path of academics and real-world learning. While attending weekly classes, you will also work two days a week at a local nonprofit organization, putting your education to work to address global challenges.

All participants take: Theology of Forgiveness, Reconciliation and Justice; and Leaders in Grassroots Organizations. Also choose two or three electives from a variety of disciplines at the University of the Western Cape.

Unlike many programs, the Marquette South Africa program allows you to move beyond the classroom and truly become a part of the community you are studying through the service learning placement. It is a priceless experience, and you will be transformed taking away lessons that will stay with you forever.
Setting Description:
While living in Cape Town, you will become acquainted with South Africa's rich history and see firsthand how the country is rebuilding itself after decades of government-enforced apartheid. You will have the opportunity to visit significant historical and cultural sites, such as Table Mountain; historic District 6; and Robben Island. And, you will experience South Africa’s spectacular array of wildlife, powerful artistic voices, traditional music, delicious foods, and diverse architecture.

Semester Total: $22,040 [Tuition per semester $18,360; Housing $2,300; Transportation in country $1,200 (Drivers and vans are provided to transport students to and from classes and service learning placements.); HTH International Health Insurance $180] Additional costs may include: Airfare, meals, books, passport and visa, and personal expenses.
