Program Overview

Program Description:
The research which is integrated in the B and B school does not have its focus on all possible behavioral and brain disorders but restricts itself in its goals. In the first place, there is not a strong emphasis on basic neuroscience as such, but basic neuroscientific research is related to neuroclinical and biobehavioural, cognitive and biosocial problems. A second constraint has to do with the nature of behavioral phenomenona and brain/behavioral disorders: there is a great diversity of conditions in which the brain, psychological functioning, cognitive processes or behaviour are implied. It is therefore of utmost importance to constrain the research to a limited number of research lines, in order to improve the probability of relevant scientific discovery and progress. The concentration within B and B is on three major research lines, namely 1) Cognition, 2) Motor functions and movement and, 3) Emotion and affect. There are strong interrelations between those lines, such as for instance neurodegeneration, depression and anxiety in cognitive disorders and dementia, interactions between cognitive and affective processes, etc.
