Program Description:

Volunteers on this program have the opportunity to participate in different areas depending on their expertise and skills. Often this involves assisting the local staff, laboratory work, health campaigns, as well as undertaking routine hospital tasks such as making beds, cleaning and talking with patients, preparing medical materials and sterilizing equipment. 

Medical volunteers in Peru should understand that independence in medical projects will always be determined by the level of training and expertise, Spanish level, age, ability to take initiative and duration of the program. 

Taking your evolving medical ability to a location where the need is greatest can give you a real buzz. The facilities and equipment are often very basic and volunteers can make a huge difference to the everyday life of those who do not have regular access to medical attention.

It is very important that volunteers are able to fluently communicate with their medical supervisor and patients, therefore a high intermediate level of Spanish is required. Spanish lessons can be arranged, however it is advised that participants already have an existing understanding of the language.

Setting Description:

As with all of our wonderful projects in Cusco, volunteers are accommodated with one of our friendly local host families, where 2-3 home-cooked meals are provided daily. Volunteers also have the opportunity to meet and socialize with many like-minded people from all over the world, and free time can be used to explore this amazing country, including the infamous Machu Picchu!

Cost:

LV Registration Fee + Programs Fees just $450 for two weeks! USD. Included: Accommodation, 2-3 Meals per day, Airport Pick-up, Orientation on Arrival and 24/7 In-Country Support. Not Included: Flights, Insurance, VISA, Vaccinations, Return Airport Transfer, In-Country Transport, and Spending Money.
