Program Description:

Many of the families that our amazing partner organization in Rwanda helps lack decent housing. Some of these families lost their homes during the horrific 1994 genocide, and others are returnees from neighboring countries, who had fled to avoid the intolerable cruelty of the time. Our partner aims to help improve the living standards of these people, some of the poorest families in the east of Rwanda.

Volunteers on this program will take part in an ongoing effort to build new homes for the neediest families in the local communities of Rwamagana. The day to day projects will vary depending on the need, but volunteers could be involved in all aspects of the construction process, from fundraising efforts, site clearing, and the physical construction of new homes.

This program is ideal for volunteers who are enthusiastic and don’t mind getting their hands dirty. If you are an engineer or have building experience you can even help design what gets built! Participants must be physically fit and enjoying being outdoors, as there is a real element of ‘roughing it’ to this amazing project.

Providing a home, one of the basic human needs, for families who are desperately in need, will likely be one of the most memorable experience you will have. This is an extremely rewarding program.

Language:   All volunteers should have a good grasp of the English language.  Some knowlege of the local dialect is also beneficial but not a pre-requisite.

Setting Description:

As with all our programs in Rwamagana, accommodation on this program is provided within a shared volunteer house, which has all the necessary facilities, including kitchen, laundry, and WiFi.

Cost:

LV Registration Fee + Programs Fees from just $280 for two weeks! USD. Included: Accommodation, Food, Airport Pickup, Orientation on Arrival and 24/7 In-Country Support. Not Included: Flights, Insurance, VISA, Vaccinations, Airport Transfers, In-Country Transport, and Spending Money.
