Lexia offers the opportunity to study the language, history, arts, politics & culture of Rome, Italy. Instruction is in English and Italian. Students can also attend lectures at the American Academy in Rome and national academies and the numerous educational institutions in Rome in addition to the program lectures.

The Rome program supports interaction and dialogue between Lexia participants and Italian faculty and students whenever possible. It also encourages participation in Italian community events, institutions and family life. No prior knowledge of Italian is required, as most coursework is in English. Language instruction during the first month of the program is taught intensively to help students develop the language skills and confidence to live and study in, and integrate themselves into, the Italian community.
Setting Description:
Rome is not only the capital of the Republic of Italy, but also world headquarters of the Roman Catholic church, an historic fulcrum of Roman civilization and a crucible of Renaissance and Baroque art. Centered here are more than twenty international organizations dedicated to relief programs, world agricultural improvement and such varied activities as preservation of art patrimonies and international non-governmental conflict negotiations.
