The Lexia in Berlin Summer Photography program is designed to give students an understanding of Berlin’s art history and the visual and technical photography skills to produce their own body of work. Students’ coursework will have them photographing daily in and around Berlin and a number of historic German centers. In the Art History component, students will visit a broad range of sites displaying Berlin’s art and will study its impact upon art and architecture throughout the world. Students’ work will culminate in a cohesive body of photographic work that encompasses their experience in Germany, demonstrating an understanding of photography within the culture both visually and conceptually.
The Berlin program supports interaction and dialogue between Lexia participants and German faculty and students whenever possible. It also encourages participation in German community events, institutions and family life. No prior knowledge of German is required, as most coursework is in English. Language instruction during the first month of the program is taught intensively to help students develop the language skills and confidence to live and study in, and integrate themselves into, the German community.
