Program Overview

Program Description:
The Summer School welcomes about fifty participants from all over the world, and enables students and professionals from different regions and backgrounds to engage in discussions on the prospects and challenges of international criminal justice.

Students at the International Criminal Law Summer School will be immersed in International Criminal Law during the two weeks they spend in The Hague. The lectures will deal with International Criminal Law in all its aspects, from substantive crimes (genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression) to general principles (including modes of liability and the role of victims) to enforcement. The courses will be given by influential and well-known academics from Leiden University and leading professionals from the International Courts and Tribunals. After successful completion of this course participants will have a solid understanding of international criminal law.

The participants will receive a certificate of participation after completion of the programme. Furthermore, we can issue a statement regarding the amount of ECTS credits we would assign to this course, based on the number of hours in class, preparation time and assignments, keeping in mind that 1 ECTS equals 28 hours of study. Your university can then evaluate this course and decide whether they will indeed award ECTS credits.
Cost:
The tuition fees for the 2014 session are €1500 for professionals, €1250 for students and €900 for Leiden University students and Participants in the 2014 ICC Moot Court Competition or the 2014 Telders International Law Moot Court Competition. The fee includes lunches and refreshments on class days, course materials, a thematic film screening, field trips to the international institutions in The Hague, a welcome dinner and a farewell banquet at the beach in Scheveningen.
