Program Description:

The Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Public International Law is an intensive, high-level postgraduate programme in public international law. The programme offers students the opportunity to acquire an advanced knowledge of public international law, while at the same time allowing them to specialise in one of two areas: International Criminal Law or Peace, Justice and Development. The programme is designed for law graduates or professionals in possession of a full law degree (offering access to legal practice), with sufficient knowledge of public international law, or who hold an equivalent degree and/or have sufficient professional experience in the field (See Admissions Criteria). The programme caters for those already working in, or pursuing a career in international organisations, governmental institutions, international non-governmental organisations, or in academia. For those interested, the programme may serve to further engage in an academic career and prepare a PhD. The LL.M. at the doorsteps of international courts and tribunals The programme provides students with in-depth knowledge of the foundations of public international law and familiarises them with the state of current debates in the field. Participants obtain skills that enable them to thoroughly analyse and interpret legal sources, literature, and cases, to research and formulate an independent opinion on international legal questions, to clearly present their findings both orally and in writing to legal specialists as well as non-lawyers, to actively participate in academic debate, and apply this advanced academic knowledge in public international law in a professional context.
