Program Description:
Learn and Help Spanish Academy is located in Antigua, Guatemala and is operated by Humanity First Guatemala, an international, non-profit humanitarian organisation. Student fees directly help support Humanity First's programs in Guatemala, so as you learn Spanish, you help make a difference! The volunteer program allows students to experience Gulatemala's diverse culture and significantly improve their language skills and volunteer at one one of Humanity First's programs while their student fees help fund programs around Guatemala and decrease the suffering and extreme poverty of Guatemalan families. Volunteers stay with a local Guatemalan family, receive daily Spanish lessons and immerse themselves in Guatemalan culture while supporting Humanity First to improve and empower underprivleged communities. Volunteering is the richest way to experience a culture and understand the hardships of daily life in developing countries such as Guatemala. Programs on offer to volunteers include: - English tutor at Humanity First Academy - English teacher at Masroor Ahmad school or Humanity First Academy - Teacher support at Masroor Ahmad school - Teaching moral and ethical lessons at Masroor Ahmad school - Educational workshops for teenagers - Afterschool program and activities for young children Volunteers receive transport to and from the airport in Gautemala city to Antigua, 20 hours of one-on-one lessons weekly, daily meals provided in their homestay, all study materials, orientation to Antigua, cultural activities within and around Antigua, placement at a suitable volunteer programs, daily transport and certification at the completion of the course. An experience you'll never forget!

Volunteering is the richest way to experience a culture and be exposed to the daily life of a country. Working with in need is an invaluable and life changing experience. At our Academy we emphasize the importance of learning a language through methods that are interactive and fun! One-on-one lessons are taught by highly experienced teachers and tailored to students’ needs, abilities, and interests. Our Spanish lessons are suitable for students starting at any level. Our private lessons, highly experienced teachers, activities, opportunities to practise Spanish un everyday situations and cultural immersion are key to effective and significant learning.
Setting Description:
Our Academy is located only four blocks from the Central Park and is adjoined to the Humanity First Guatemala office and Academy. Scholarship students from surrounding public schools receive English and computer lessons on-site as part of Humanity First's Knowledge for Life program. Volunteers will either be placed in the Humanity First Academy in Antigua or Masroor Ahmad school in Alotenango.
