Program Overview

Program Description:
The school is located downtown Barcelona, close to all main attractions and sights. There are many shops, restaurants and cafes nearby. The school is also within walking distance from the beach. Residence: (shared double rooms) with 3 meals daily. Students have breakfast and dinner at the residence and receive a packed lunch. The residence is located about 15 minutes away from the language school. Host family: (shared double rooms) with 3 meals daily. The family provides 3 meals daily, with a packed lunch that is usually eaten with the other students and teachers at the school. The families are normally located between 30-50 minutes travelling distance (normally by local public transit) from the school and town center. Students will share rooms with another student of the same sex studying on the summer program Important Note: We would like to point out that while supervision is provided by the host family, the students will travel to/from the school every day with a roommate or on their own, normally by public transit. On the first day of school, the student is provided with detailed written directions to the school, by the host family. If there are two students staying with one host family, they usually travel to/from school together every day.

Setting Description:
The city of Barcelona offers a wide variety of colourful and intricate architecture created by the world famous Antoni Gaudí. The Gothic Neighbourhood, and the pedestrian street "Las Ramblas" make this city a traveller's and art lover's paradise. Its history is beautifully reflected in the famous "Barrio Gótico", the old town district known as the Gothic Quarter for the treasures house of Gothic monuments found there. It is the site of both historic monuments and modern institutions. It is also the mecca of Spain for modern art and theatre lovers. Students can admire the work of Picasso, Miró and visit the famous "Sagrada Familia" while participating in one of the many organized cultural activities. Barcelona hosts many festivals during the summer months. These include the Grec Festival at the Theatre Grec, classical music festivals at the Palau de la Música at the end of September, and the very important "Mercé" celebration, which commemorates the patron saint of the city.
