LEG works with four schools in and around Granada, providing tutoring services, afterschool activities, and more. Each of the schools has a group of volunteers, and new volunteers are assigned to a group based on their level of Spanish. Groups vary in size from as many as 12 members to as few as four. Every group is assigned an ayudante, or helper. The ayudantes are Nicaraguan university students who receive scholarships in exchange for volunteering with LEG. Their role is to act as a liaison between the volunteer groups and local teachers. They play an important role in facilitating your work in the classroom and will always be present.
