Program Description:
Kulturstudier offers a full academic semester programme in anthropology and religion in India. The programme incorporates perspectives from anthropology and religious studies. The objective of the program is to give students an understanding of substantive issues related to the relationship between religion and politics. The program joins a general approach to the topic with a specific regional focus on South Asia. A combination of academic lectures and seminars, excursions, and interaction with the immediate surroundings offers broad perspectives. Coming semesters begin August 26 and February 3.

ANTHROPOLOGY: RELIGION AND POWER (10 ECTS) offers an overview of enduring anthropological fields of interests, such as religion and ritual, political structures and the dynamics of power, gender, ethnicity, ecology, economy, sociocultural change, and research methodology. + RELIGION, SOCIETY AND POWER IN SOUTH ASIA (20 ECTS) provides knowledge of religious diversity and pluralism in South Asia. Emphasis is also put on the numerous conflicts that religious diversity has brought about, and on the relationship between religion and politics in the formation of modern India.
